Scholarships and Grants (FAFSA Required)
Federal Pell Grant (PELL)
A federal grant for students who have not received a bachelor's degree.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
A federal grant that does not have to be repaid. Awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. Pell Grant recipients with the lowest expected family contributions (EFCs) will be considered first for a SEOG. Student must be enrolled for at least 6 credits.
Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG):
A federal grant that does not have to be repaid. Available to first and second year college students who are enrolled full time and receiving a Pell Grant. Must be a U.S. citizen, completed a rigorous secondary school program of study and graduated from high school after January 1, 2005.
State of Hawaii B Plus Scholarship
Established by the State of Hawai`i to support increased access to education and recognize public Hawai`i high school graduates with a high school GPA of at least 3.0 and demonstrate financial need. Eligibility includes: graduation from a Hawai`i public high school after 2005, high school GPA at least 3.00, bonafide resident of Hawai`i, and demonstrated financial need. Applicants must apply for financial aid and submit a copy of high school transcripts.
Hawai`i State Incentive Grant (HSIG):
A federal grant that does not have to be repaid. Leveraging Educational Assistance Program for legal residents of Hawai`i enrolled for at least 6 credits that are eligible for the Pell Grant. A federal grant that is matched with institutional and state funds.
Kapi`olani Opportunity Grant:
Need-based institutional grant that does not have to be repaid. This grant covers a portion of tuition costs for credit courses. Grant does not cover student fees. Student must be enrolled for at least 6 credits.
Native Hawaiian Tuition Waiver
Native Hawaiian Tuition Waivers were established to support the increased number of Hawaiian and part-Hawaiian students seeking a degree in higher education. Waives a portion of tuition costs for credit courses. Grant does not cover student fees or pre-college classes (PCM or PCC classes). Student must be enrolled for at least 6 credits.
Kapi`olani Pacific Islander Scholarship
The UH Pacific Islander Scholarship was established to provide relevant education and training to those in the Pacific who will assume positions of leadership, responsibility and service in the Pacific region. Students designated with an exemption status for tuition purposes (pays 150% of resident tuition), resident of a U.S. affiliated Pacific Island and apply for financial assistance using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) may be considered for this award. The award assists in paying the 150% of resident tuition differential. Scholarship does not cover student fees or pre-college classes (PCC or PCM classes).
Ruth E. Black Scholarship (BLACK)
For legal resident of Hawaii enrolled for at least 6 credits. For a student whose parents are employed in the construction industry (engineer, contractor, architect, etc). Charles R. Hemenway Scholarship (ZKHEME)
For legal residents of Hawaii enrolled for at least 6 credits. Requires a separate application, personal statements, and a letter of recommendation. Hawaii Veterans Memorial Fund (ZKVETM)
For legal residents of Hawaii enrolled full time (12 or more credits). Requires a separate application, personal statement, and a letter of recommendation. Applications available upon request at KISC. A PDF version of the Hawaii Veterans Memorial Fund Application Form is available below.
