Distance Learning

Within available resources, on campus credit and noncredit offerings are made available via appropriate technologies to students who are qualified and are committed to pursuing post secondary education, but who cannot attend as regular on campus students.

Distance Learning occurs when any portion of the interaction occurs when the student is separated by location from the instructor, resources to support learning, or other students, but connected using technology.

Kapiolani Community College (KCC) provides students an opportunity to access higher education courses and programs via distance learning technologies at anytime, from anywhere. Interactive Television, Cable, and Internet course offerings are designed to combine individual and group activity with interaction between and among students and the instructor. For more information, see "Interactive Television", "Educational Cable Television", and "Distance Learning Online" under the Related Links section.

Distance delivered courses are open to students seeking to earn an Associate in Arts degree through Interactive TV, Cable TV, and the Internet.

Note: Before enrolling in any Distance Learning courses, it is strongly suggested that visit the UHCC eLearn web site to learn more about Distance Learning. While visiting this web site, take the UHCC eLearn Self Assessment to determine if Distance Learning is right for you. For more information, see "UHCC eLearn" and "UHCC eLearn Self Assessment" under the Related Links section.

Modalities of Distance Learning

KCC distributes Distance Education through three different modes.

Cable and Interactive Television transmission permit two-way audio and video participation between students and instructor at different locations. Online learning via the Internet allows for group and individual learning that is independent of time and location. Rather than gathering in a classroom, students and the instructor interact synchronously and asynchronously.
